FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has signed two key agreements with Chinese engineering giants to improve water supply and street lighting in Abuja and its satellite towns.

The Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs), signed with China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) and China Geo-Engineering Corporation Overseas Construction Group (CGCOC), were finalized during Wike’s visit to China for the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Summit.

CGCOC will complete the Greater Abuja Water Works project—currently 75% done—by December 2024, and extend clean water access to Gwagwalada, Kwali, and Kuje.

In a separate deal, CCECC will install solar-powered streetlights in Maitama, Asokoro, Wuse, the Central Business District, and the Airport Road, while CGCOC will handle lighting in Mabushi, Katampe, and Garki.

“These projects are in line with President Tinubu’s directive to ensure vital services reach all FCT residents,” Wike said.

The agreements build on Wike’s recent talks with the Chinese Ambassador, aimed at deepening Nigeria-China ties. Implementation is set to begin soon.
