The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has ordered all six Area Council Chairmen to immediately pay the outstanding minimum wage arrears owed to their workers.

Wike issued the directive during a meeting with the chairmen, revealing that the FCT Administration has already disbursed ₦4.16 billion to the councils specifically for that purpose.

“There is no excuse now. The money has been disbursed. Council workers deserve their wages,” Wike said firmly.

He emphasized that the directive aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, aimed at improving the welfare of Nigerian workers and ensuring transparency in public service.

The Minister also warned that the use of the funds will be strictly monitored, adding that any mismanagement would attract serious consequences.

Reacting to the news, Musa Garba, a staff member at Bwari Area Council, expressed relief:
“This is the kind of news we’ve been waiting for. Times are hard, and getting what we’re owed will bring some comfort to our families.”

With this development, hundreds of council workers across the FCT may soon breathe a sigh of relief as hopes rise for the long-awaited payments.
