Power Outage in Wuse 2 Cripples Businesses, Residents Frustrated

A prolonged power outage has hit Wuse 2, one of Abuja’s busiest commercial areas, disrupting businesses and daily life.

The blackout, ongoing for several days, has forced shops, offices, and homes to rely heavily on generators. Many small business owners say they are struggling to keep up with the cost.

“I’ve spent over ₦200,000 on fuel just to stay open,” said Uche Obi, a boutique owner. “If it continues, I’ll have to shut down.”

Hair salons, restaurants, and cold rooms have also been hit hard. “No power, no sleep — it’s too hot,” said Grace Iroanya, a restaurant manager.

Freelancers and startups are equally affected. “I can’t meet deadlines or stay online,” said Tunde Yusuf, a designer.

A source at the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) blamed a damaged transformer, saying repairs are delayed by logistics.

“We know it’s inconvenient and are working on it,” the source added.

Residents are urging the FCT Administration and AEDC to act fast and prevent further losses.
