The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has announced plans to begin a comprehensive inspection of abattoirs, veterinary clinics, and farm infrastructure across Abuja as part of efforts to strengthen the agricultural sector.
The Mandate Secretary of the Agriculture and Rural Development Secretariat, Mr. Abdullahi Ango, made this known in Abuja following a strategic meeting with directors, project heads, and specialized units of the secretariat.
According to Mr. Ango, the upcoming inspection tours across the FCT’s area councils will serve as a vital platform to engage directly with farmers, stakeholders, and development partners. The goal is to fast-track the implementation of key agricultural programmes within the Territory.
He also revealed that plans are in place to ensure the timely distribution of seeds, fertilisers, and farming tools ahead of the 2025 rainy season to support local food production.
Mr. Ango, who was recently redeployed from the Youth Development Secretariat, stressed the need to equip agricultural extension officers with modern tools and relevant training. This, he said, would help improve productivity and support farmers more effectively.
In addition, he called for stronger collaboration between the public and private sectors to drive investments in agribusiness and expand opportunities across the FCT.
