
The Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, has reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to transforming FCT Area Councils into vibrant tourism and investment destinations.
Speaking at the maiden edition of the FCT Area Councils’ Tourism and Hospitality Investment Carnival and Expo at the Cyprian Ekwensi Centre for Arts and Culture in Abuja, Dr. Mahmoud—represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Social Development Secretariat, Bunmi Olowookere—said the event was designed to highlight and promote economic opportunities across the six Area Councils.
She emphasized that by celebrating local culture, enterprise, and innovation, the administration is working to stimulate economic revival, foster inclusive community development, and pave the way for sustainable wealth creation—aligned with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Dr. Mahmoud also disclosed that the FCT Administration, under Minister Nyesom Wike’s leadership, has received a clear directive from the President to develop the FCT’s culture, tourism, and hospitality sector to meet global standards.
Acknowledging the Area Councils as key stakeholders, she noted that many untapped investment opportunities are located within these local communities. She also praised the Tourism Department of the Social Development Secretariat for initiating the expo and carnival.
The Minister assured that the FCTA will continue to welcome fresh ideas, support initiatives, and foster partnerships that promote Abuja as a leading tourist and investment destination in Africa.
Also speaking at the event, Mandate Secretary of the FCT Social Development Secretariat, Aminu Ibrahim—represented by the Director of Administration and Finance, Dr. Nasiru Shidali—highlighted the vital role tourism plays in global economies.
He pointed out that Abuja is one of the fastest-growing cities in Africa, offering immense untapped opportunities for businesses. He further stated that tourism and hospitality remain one of the largest job-creating sectors, and urged investors to take advantage of the FCT’s unique prospects
