The Federal Capital Territory has officially launched the 2025 Minister’s Volleyball Challenge, drawing a record-breaking 53 teams from 33 clubs for a five-day showdown focused on grassroots sports revival and talent discovery.
The tournament, which kicked off at the Moshood Abiola Stadium’s Package B courts, represents a significant jump in participation—up 76 percent from last year’s edition.
Chairman of the Local Organising Committee, Commodore James Pindar (Rtd.), said the challenge aims to identify and nurture young athletes across Under-17, Under-21, and senior categories, with the goal of forming formidable teams to represent the FCT in future national competitions.
“All teams will receive participation grants,” Pindar stated. “Top performers will also take home trophies, medals, cash prizes, and individual awards.”
The tournament is part of a broader strategy to grow volleyball in the FCT. The sports calendar includes an Under-17 Challenge scheduled for September and a Beach Volleyball competition set for November.
As matches continue, Abuja is set for an exciting week of spikes, blocks, and rising stars on the court.
