

Members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council, took center stage during the 2025 Workers’ Day celebration on Thursday in Abuja, showcasing placards with powerful messages to spotlight the pressing needs of media professionals

The journalists used the occasion to advocate for better welfare, press freedom, improved working conditions, and safety in the line of duty. Their presence underscored the role of the media in amplifying workers’ voices while also calling attention to challenges within the industry.

One placard read, “Journalists are workers too — pay us well!” while another demanded, “Safety for journalists is safety for democracy.”
The Workers’ Day celebration brought together unions across various sectors to reflect on labour struggles and renew calls for justice, dignity, and fair pay.
