The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has called on the National Assembly to expedite the passage of the electoral reform legislation currently before it.
Speaking at a stakeholders’ forum in Abuja, INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, emphasized the urgency of timely reforms to ensure effective planning and implementation ahead of future elections. He noted that early passage of the electoral bill would allow for improved transparency, inclusiveness, and credibility in the electoral process.
Prof. Yakubu also urged lawmakers to prioritize key amendments that address electoral challenges encountered in past polls, stressing that reform delays could negatively affect preparations for upcoming elections.
