The National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) and the Medical and Health Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MHWUN), FCT chapter, have announced a 10-day suspension of their ongoing strike to enable members participate in an upcoming vaccination exercise in the Federal Capital Territory.
Chairman of NANNM, FCT, Jama Medan, made the disclosure in an exclusive interview with Abuja Digest. He clarified that the strike is not being called off but temporarily paused to ensure the success of the immunisation campaign and allow access to vital materials and cold chain equipment in primary healthcare centres (PHCs).
“All our members who may be needed for the vaccination exercise should come out to implement the vaccination,” Medan stated, while also directing that PHCs be opened for the removal of essential immunisation materials.
He stressed that the move was made to protect innocent children from missing out on life-saving vaccines, emphasizing the temporary nature of the suspension.
