AMAC Area Council made history on Sunday, April 27, by winning the maiden FCT FA Women’s Inter Area Councils Football Tournament, edging Gwagwalada Area Council 1–0 at the FIFA Goal Project Pitch, inside the Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abuja.

The tournament, sponsored by Pat Ajuma Ayegba, was designed to promote grassroots women’s football and uncover young talents across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

“This tournament is about giving young girls a platform to shine and to build a future for women’s football in Nigeria,” said sponsor Pat Ajuma Ayegba.

In the third-place match, Kwali Area Council defeated Kuje on penalties after a goalless draw.

The President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Ibrahim Musa Gusau, who was honored with a Meritorious Award at the event, praised the initiative and promised continuous backing for grassroots programs.

“The NFF remains fully committed to supporting grassroots football, where tomorrow’s champions are made,” Gusau said during his remarks.

The Minister of Women’s Affairs also pledged her ministry’s support for future tournaments, emphasizing the importance of sustained investment in women’s sports.

“This is just the beginning. We are committed to growing women’s football and empowering our girls through sports,” the Minister stated.

The success of the inaugural tournament is seen as a major step forward for women’s football in the FCT, inspiring hopes of even greater participation and development in the coming years.
