The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has secured a $12.1 million grant from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to establish a world-class startup hub in Abuja.
The announcement was made by NITDA’s Director-General, Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, who stated that the partnership is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s digital economy and support the growth of tech startups. The hub is expected to provide a thriving ecosystem for innovation, entrepreneurship, and skills development, particularly among Nigerian youth.
According to Abdullahi, the initiative aligns with the Federal Government’s strategic goals of promoting technology-driven economic growth, job creation, and positioning Nigeria as a leader in Africa’s digital transformation.
The proposed facility will offer infrastructure, training programs, and mentorship opportunities to early-stage startups. It will also serve as a bridge for international collaboration, opening doors for Nigerian entrepreneurs to access global markets and investment networks.
The partnership with JICA represents a significant milestone in Nigeria’s tech development journey and underscores the increasing interest of international partners in the country’s innovation ecosystem.
