The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) is dedicated to transforming the agricultural sector to meet the needs of its rapidly increasing population.
The agricultural sector in the Federal Capital Territory holds significant potential for creating employment opportunities for the youth while also ensuring food security for its citizens.
Abdullahi Suleiman Ango, the newly appointed Mandate Secretary of the Agriculture and Rural Development Secretariat, made this commitment during his official takeover in Abuja following a recent reshuffle by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.
Ango emphasized the vital role agriculture plays as the backbone of Nigeria’s economy, particularly in light of the growing population. He stated, “Agriculture is essential to our economy, and with the rising population in the FCT, it is crucial that we adopt innovative practices to enhance food security, create jobs, and empower our youth.”
He also expressed a strong stance against complacency, urging staff to prioritize professionalism and teamwork.
Ango extended his gratitude to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and Minister of State Dr. Mariya Mahmoud for entrusting him with this important role.
Welcoming him to the Secretariat, Engr. Gbemi Josiah Omole, Director of Cooperative and Rural Development, spoke on behalf of the ARDS management team, assuring Ango of their full support in achieving his vision for sustainable growth in the agricultural sector. “Your leadership comes at a critical time when we need to make a positive impact on the lives of FCT residents, and we are confident that your expertise will bring about a new era of progress and development,” he added.
This administrative shake-up resulted in Ango replacing the former Mandate Secretary of ARDS, who has been reassigned to the Youth and Sports Secretariat.
