President Bola Tinubu has explained his decision to remove the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) from the Treasury Single Account (TSA), stating that it was necessary to fast-track development and enhance governance.
Speaking in Abuja during a Sallah homage led by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, Tinubu said Wike requested the exemption to allow more efficient project execution. Convinced by his reasoning, Tinubu approved the request, granting the FCTA autonomy over its Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of over ₦250 billion.
Since the exemption, the FCT has seen rapid improvements, including rural development, revival of abandoned projects, completion of the Vice President’s residence, healthcare upgrades, and better school facilities.
Tinubu urged Nigerians to prioritize results over ethnic and religious considerations in leadership choices. Wike expressed gratitude, reaffirming his commitment to developing the FCT.
The event was attended by Vice President Kashim Shettima, top government officials, and FCT stakeholders.
