The Health Services and Environment Secretariat of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) is collaborating with Nordica Fertility Centre to improve access to quality reproductive healthcare for Nigerians. This partnership aims to introduce High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU), a minimally invasive procedure that uses ultrasound waves to treat conditions like tumors, uterine fibroids, and tremors.
During a virtual press conference for the Abuja Reproductive Health Week, Dr. Olugbenga Bello, Acting Director of the General Hospital Management Board, emphasized FCTA’s commitment to enhancing the lives of women. He stated that this collaboration aligns with the current administration’s goal of bringing health services closer to the community. Bello noted that many cancers are now being detected earlier and in younger individuals who wish to preserve their fertility, highlighting the importance of advanced treatment options.
Dr. Abayomi Ajayi, Consultant Obstetrician, Gynaecologist, and CEO of Nordica Fertility Centre, explained that the week will focus on reproductive health issues, including fibroids and onco-fertility, which involves preserving fertility during cancer treatment.
He stated, “We must address the challenges posed by cancer while also preserving the fertility of women and girls undergoing cancer care.” The week will feature specialists in various fields to equip residents with the necessary knowledge to make informed decisions regarding their reproductive health.
