The Coalition of Civil Society Groups for Peace, Security, Good Governance, Equity, and Justice has urged landowners and tenants in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to fulfill their statutory obligation by paying ground rent.
In a statement issued by its National Coordinator, Comrade James Okoronkwo, the group condemned the widespread non-compliance with ground rent payments in the FCT.
Comrade Okoronkwo commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, for his achievements in road construction and urban renewal. He noted that increased compliance with ground rent payments would further enable the minister to implement more development projects across the territory.
The coalition also urged Nigeria’s main opposition party to desist from politicizing the issue of ground rent on its property in the Central Business District, revealing that it had failed to make payments for over 20 years.
Additionally, the group praised the Director of Lands, Mr. Chijioke Nwankwoeze, for his dedication to ensuring compliance with ground rent payments, thereby strengthening government revenue streams in the FCT.
