Abuja, March 24, 2025 – Primary school teachers in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have resumed their strike today over the non-payment of the national minimum wage and other entitlements.

The teachers, under the umbrella of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), had previously issued warnings and embarked on protests, urging the FCT Administration (FCTA) to address their grievances. However, with no resolution in sight, they have decided to down tools once again, leaving thousands of pupils stranded as schools remain closed.

According to reports, the teachers are demanding the full implementation of the minimum wage approved by the federal government, along with payment of outstanding salary arrears and better working conditions. The union has accused the FCTA of neglecting their plight despite repeated engagements and promises.

The strike is expected to affect learning across public primary schools in the FCT, forcing parents to seek alternative arrangements for their children. Many parents have expressed frustration over the continued disruption of their children’s education, urging the government to resolve the issue swiftly.
As of now, the FCT Administration has yet to release an official statement on the strike action. However, sources indicate that discussions are ongoing to find a resolution.

The striking teachers have vowed not to return to classrooms until their demands are met, raising concerns about prolonged school closures if a swift agreement is not reached.

More updates to follow as the situation unfolds.
