Dr. Danlami Hayyo, Mandate Secretary of the Education Secretariat, Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), has disclosed that the administration has spent N200 billion on education from 2023 to date.

Speaking in Abuja on Tuesday at the opening of a two-day Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education Training for Vice Principals (Academic) in FCT public secondary schools, Hayyo highlighted the breakdown of the expenditure.

According to him, N100 billion was allocated to school renovations and the establishment of new institutions. He noted that this was the first time such a significant amount had been invested in the education sector within a year.

Hayyo attributed this achievement to the visionary leadership of FCT Minister, Mr. Nyesom Wike, who has been actively working to upgrade public primary and secondary schools across the territory.

The minister reaffirmed his commitment to improving access to quality education, stating that:

“Providing access to education alone is not enough. If we do not ensure quality, then we have not truly provided education. As we expand access, we must also focus on improving quality—ensuring conducive learning environments, habitable dining areas, and well-equipped hostels.”

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that in March 2024, Wike launched a major initiative to rehabilitate and construct new secondary schools across the FCT.

He emphasized that under his leadership, the FCTA would prioritize both accessibility and quality in education to provide functional learning experiences for the younger generation.
