Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has promised to give a prime piece of land in Abuja to the University of Port Harcourt to build a Centre for Political Studies.
Speaking to the university’s leadership at his Abuja residence, Wike—who is a former student of the school—also pledged to fund a modern multimedia facility at the university’s convocation arena. He clarified that he and his friends would personally cover the ₦150 million cost, not the government.
Wike encouraged others in positions of power to also give back to their schools, reminding them that he had supported the university during his time as Minister of Education and Governor of Rivers State.
The University Governing Council, led by Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, visited Wike to congratulate him on his ministerial role and his achievements. They also requested land for the political studies centre and assistance with upgrading the convocation arena’s multimedia facilities.
In appreciation, the University’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Owunari Abraham Georgewill, praised Wike’s contributions and revealed that roads in the school had been named after him. He described Wike as a distinguished alumnus whose impact was widely recognized.
