Residents of several communities in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have urged the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, to include them in Abuja’s master plan rather than forcing them to relocate. They argue that instead of being removed from their ancestral land, they should be allowed to remain and be part of the city’s development.

At a gathering in Kpaduma community, representatives from Kpaduma I, Kpaduma II, Guzape, Appekyi, Dakibiyu, Dape, Zhilu, Maje, and Gishiri expressed their concerns. Their spokesperson, Hon. Bala Iyah, read a communiqué rejecting claims that they had been compensated or relocated in the past.

No Compensation or Relocation

The residents refuted Wike’s earlier statement that they had been compensated about 20 years ago.

“We want to state clearly that we have never been compensated or relocated by any administration,” the communiqué stated.

Demolitions and Compensation Issues

The natives also raised concerns about recent demolitions in Gishiri. They stressed that if road construction affects their homes, they should receive proper compensation and be relocated within their communities instead of being given inadequate payments that cannot even cover rent for a year.

The residents reminded the minister that they have a court order preventing demolitions in their area. They affirmed their commitment to development but insisted that their rights must be respected.

While appreciating Wike’s development efforts, they urged him to follow due process and ensure fair treatment. They remain hopeful for a positive resolution and called for the government to respect the rule of law.
