The sixth edition of the NCF/PwC National Cricket Tournament concluded in grand fashion at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, showcasing an impressive display of talent and unforgettable experiences.
Demonstrating remarkable dominance, the South-South male and female teams maintained an unblemished record, winning all their matches to claim their respective titles. This victory marks the South-South girls’ sixth consecutive championship and the boys’ fourth title in the prestigious tournament, which continues to unearth promising cricket talents across the nation.
In the male category, the South-South team asserted their superiority over the South-West, while the South-East secured third place. The female division saw a determined South-South squad retain their championship crown, defeating the South-East to clinch their sixth straight title.
Following the tournament, NCF President Mr. Uyi Akpata expressed gratitude to PwC for their invaluable support in fostering cricket’s growth in Nigeria.
“For the Federation, the tournament’s progress has been remarkable. Over the past six years, we’ve witnessed significant improvements, and the quality of play this year has reached new heights. The success of our under-19 girls in Malaysia has undoubtedly inspired the players here today,” Akpata stated. “This tournament is achieving its primary goal—enhancing cricket’s development nationwide. The competitive spirit is flourishing, and I’m genuinely excited about the future.”
PwC representative Mr. Tolu Adeleke also lauded the tournament for unveiling fresh talent capable of representing Nigeria on both national and international stages.
“Today’s final was a testament to the tournament’s purpose, with South-South and South-West delivering an exciting contest. A particularly young player showed immense focus and determination in the last set, embodying the spirit of this competition. Although his team didn’t win, the essence of this event lies in participation and enthusiasm,” Adeleke remarked.
“Overall, this tournament has been a fantastic experience, and we are thrilled to have discovered more talented players. I am confident that several of them will soon join the under-19 teams for both boys and girls, paving the way for their transition to the senior national team.”
The NCF/PwC National Cricket Tournament continues to serve as a vital platform for nurturing young talent and strengthening cricket’s foundation in Nigeria.
