El-Rufai visits Aregbesola, Tunde Bakare in Lagos, Atiku in Abuja

Abuja – March 10, 2025

Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has embarked on a series of high-profile visits, fueling speculations about potential political realignments ahead of the 2027 elections.

El-Rufai’s engagements began in Lagos, where he met with former Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, and renowned cleric, Pastor Tunde Bakare. Although details of their discussions remain undisclosed, political analysts believe these meetings could signal strategic consultations ahead of future political maneuvers.

Following his Lagos engagements, El-Rufai traveled to Abuja, where he paid a visit to former Vice President and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, Atiku Abubakar. However, this meeting was not purely political; sources confirm that El-Rufai led a delegation to formally request the hand of Atiku’s daughter, Hafsat Atiku Abubakar, in marriage to the family of Kashim Imam. The delegation included National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, as well as former governors Sule Lamido and Aminu Waziri Tambuwal.

Despite the personal nature of the Abuja visit, political watchers have not ruled out the possibility of strategic discussions between El-Rufai and Atiku, particularly given the shifting political landscape. Some analysts speculate that these visits could indicate an emerging alliance or a repositioning within Nigeria’s political space.

Observers remain attentive to further developments, as El-Rufai’s moves suggest growing engagements with key figures across party lines. With the 2027 elections on the horizon, the former Kaduna governor’s recent visits could be a precursor to broader political dynamics in the coming months.
