
Abuja, Nigeria – March 8, 2025 – The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has intensified its efforts to curb criminal activities by conducting coordinated raids on several identified black spots across Abuja. The operation, which took place in the early hours of the morning, led to the arrest of 73 suspects.
According to the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, the raids were carried out in Maitama, Kurudu, Galadima, Karmo, and other notorious areas known for harboring criminal elements. The operation, conducted by a special task force comprising officers from the Anti-Narcotics Unit and various divisional commands, also led to the recovery of illicit substances suspected to be Indian hemp, hard drugs, and other contraband items.
The FCT Police Commissioner emphasized that these efforts align with the command’s commitment to ensuring safety and order within the capital city. “Our objective is to rid Abuja of criminal hideouts that pose a threat to the security of residents. These raids are part of a sustained effort to restore peace and curb illicit activities,” he stated.
In a similar development, the police disclosed that intelligence reports have identified 17 high-risk areas, including Apo-Dutse Panteka, Diplomatic Zone, and sections of the Abuja-Kaduna Road, as major crime hubs. Previous crackdowns in these locations led to the arrest of 348 individuals, with 320 already facing prosecution.
Authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the police. They assured the public that more security operations will be conducted to further secure the city.
As investigations continue, the suspects are currently undergoing screening, with those found culpable set to face legal proceedings.
