Police Nab Abuja Businessman Who Targets POS Operators

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested a businessman identified as Emmanuel Okeke for allegedly masterminding a series of attacks on Point of Sale (POS) operators in the city.

According to the police, Okeke, 38, who owns a chain of electronics stores, used his business as a front while orchestrating the criminal activities. He was nabbed following a sting operation by the FCT Police Anti-Robbery Squad after months of surveillance.

Modus Operandi Police investigations revealed that Okeke would approach POS operators under the pretense of making transactions, only to rob them at gunpoint. He reportedly worked with a gang of accomplices who would create distractions, allowing him to strike and escape undetected. Several victims reported losing thousands of naira in cash, with some also sustaining injuries during the attacks.

FCT Police Command spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Saturday. “Following a series of complaints from POS operators across the city, our detectives launched an investigation which led to the arrest of the prime suspect, Emmanuel Okeke. He has been positively identified by several victims,” she stated.

Arrest and Recovery Okeke was apprehended at a popular shopping plaza in Wuse, Abuja, while attempting to withdraw funds using a stolen ATM card. Upon his arrest, police recovered several mobile phones, a locally made pistol, multiple SIM cards, and stolen POS machines from his residence in Kubwa.
