Police Arrest 245 Suspected Criminals in Abuja Crackdown

Abuja, Nigeria – February 28, 2025 – The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has intensified its efforts to combat crime in the nation’s capital, leading to the arrest of 245 suspected criminals in a large-scale operation.

The security crackdown, which took place over several days, targeted crime hotspots within Abuja, resulting in the recovery of hard drugs, dangerous weapons, and other illicit materials. The FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Haruna Garba, disclosed that the operation was aimed at tackling the rising cases of armed robbery, drug trafficking, and other criminal activities plaguing the territory.

“This operation is part of our ongoing commitment to rid Abuja of criminal elements. We have successfully apprehended 245 suspects, some of whom are linked to recent criminal incidents. We also recovered a significant quantity of hard drugs and weapons, which pose a serious threat to public safety,” CP Garba stated.

According to police sources, the arrested individuals are currently undergoing investigation, and those found culpable will be prosecuted accordingly. The Commissioner further reassured residents that security agencies will continue their efforts to maintain law and order, urging the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities.

Residents of Abuja have expressed relief over the security measures, with many commending the police for their proactive approach in addressing crime. However, some have called for sustained efforts to ensure long-term peace and stability in the region.
