FCTA Warns Principals Against Unauthorized Use of School Vehicles

Abuja – The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has issued a stern warning to Principals of Junior Secondary Schools in the Territory against the unauthorized use of official school vehicles outside the FCT.

The Acting Executive Chairman of the FCT Universal Basic Education Board (UBEB), Dr. Alhassan Sule, made this announcement during the 2024/2025 Second Term Resumption meeting of Principals with the Board’s Management at Junior Secondary School, Garki.

Dr. Sule emphasized that school vehicles must not be used for trips beyond the FCT without explicit approval from the Board’s Management. He urged school heads to adhere strictly to this directive to avoid sanctions.

He also commended the FCT Minister, Barrister Nyesom Wike, for implementing the Whole School Strategy, a policy aimed at upgrading the infrastructure of public Junior Secondary and Primary schools in the territory. According to him, this initiative will enable FCT schools to meet global educational standards in the near future.

Welcoming school administrators into the new academic term, Dr. Sule expressed hope that education within the Basic Education sub-sector will be elevated under the Board’s supervision. He reminded the Principals that in line with the ‘Renewed Hope Agenda’ of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, education remains a top priority, particularly in addressing the issue of out-of-school children.

Dr. Sule highlighted the recent establishment of the National Commission for Almajiri and Out-of-School Children, which aims to tackle the challenge of children missing out on formal education.

Commending the efforts of Principals in the successful execution of the FCT UBEB Head-To-Head Debate Competition among Junior Secondary Schools, he urged them to remain committed to their responsibilities for the sustained growth of schools in the territory.

On child welfare, Dr. Sule directed school administrators to report any child of school age found hawking during school hours, as part of the government’s efforts to curb child labor and ensure access to education.

Furthermore, he stressed the need for enhanced security measures in schools. He urged school heads to maintain vigilance and liaise with security agencies to report any suspicious activities around school premises. He reiterated that ensuring the safety of students and staff should be a top priority for all administrators.

The FCTA remains committed to enforcing these directives to ensure the smooth operation of schools and the safety of students within the Federal Capital Territory.`
