FCTA Gets Building Contravention Task Force

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has inaugurated a Building Contravention Task Force to effectively checkmate the activities of illegal developers and proactively monitor contraventions across in Districts in the Federal Capital City, Abuja.

Accordingly, its setting up is to further complement the activities of the Department of Development Control and firm up unauthorized developments.

The Coordinator, Abuja Metropolitan Management Council, Felix Obuah, who inaugurated the Task Force in Wuse District, Abuja, enjoined the Task Force to identify all on-going developments in the respective Districts of Federal Capital City and ascertain their level of compliance with the approved building plan.

The Coordinator urged the new body to also analyze the extent of non compliance if any and to initiate enforcement actions as well as penalties in consonance with Development Control guidelines and standards.

Obuah said that the Task Force is not a parallel Department of Development Control but a complimentary body that has a time line.

According to him, the Task Force is to conduct a regular monitoring of all Districts in Federal Capital City and establish level of compliance to the approved building plan.

He instructed the Task Force to examine identified area of violations and issue Contravention Notices in line with Development Control guidelines.

The body is expected to initiate appropriate enforcement actions such as payment of Contravention fees, withdrawal of approval, re-submission for consideration and approval or total removal of structures,” Obuah added.

The Coordinator, who was represented at the occasion by the Director of Development Control, Tpl Mukhtar Galadima, said that the Task Force will liaise with relevant mandate departments of FCTA and professional bodies in addressing multifaceted cases and tap into existing private sector driven tools in monitoring and enforcement exercise towards strengthening existing fame work as same by department of development control.

The Task Force Chairman, Engr. Osah Gabriel Azunuka, who spoke on behalf of members promised to deliver on the mandate.Other members include; Tpl Mohammed Zayyanu, Arch Muhammad Abubakar, Bldr. Jerome Ugboho, Daniel Joseph (Qs), Tpl. Bello Yinka, Yusuf Godwin, Bldr. Timothy Kenji, Engr Ugochukwu Anyanwu, Godwin Alkali, Silas Agbidi, Wiki Awasak, Nzelu Evelyn Nwanneka, Engr. Ibrahim Muhammed Hadi, Tpl. Jamila Shehu Bello, Tpl. Sadiq Ahmad, Nnadi Ike, Dr. Momoh Gabriel and Engr. Adamu Sidi Ali.
