FCTA Threatens Demolition of Illegal Structures in Abuja Community
Abuja, Nigeria – February 20, 2025 – The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has issued a stern warning to residents and developers in an Abuja community, threatening to demolish all illegal structures that violate city planning regulations. The warning comes as part of the administration’s continued efforts to enforce urban development laws and maintain order in the rapidly growing capital.
During a recent inspection tour, officials from the FCTA Department of Development Control identified numerous unauthorized buildings and encroachments on government-owned land. According to the Director of Development Control, these structures pose serious environmental and security risks and will be removed if owners fail to comply with legal requirements.
“We cannot allow lawlessness to take over our city’s development,” said the Director. “All property owners must adhere to the approved land use plans and obtain proper documentation before embarking on any construction project. Failure to comply will result in immediate demolition.”
Residents of the affected areas expressed mixed reactions to the announcement. While some welcomed the government’s efforts to restore order, others pleaded for leniency, citing the financial burden of relocating or securing proper permits.
The FCTA has urged affected individuals to approach relevant authorities for guidance on regularizing their properties before the deadline. It also reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that Abuja remains a well-planned and habitable city for all.
As enforcement actions loom, property owners have been advised to take urgent steps to verify the legitimacy of their structures and comply with the city’s urban development policies to avoid demolition.
