FCTA Launches Electronic Ticketing System for Traffic Offenders
Abuja, Nigeria – February 18, 2025
The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has introduced an electronic ticketing system aimed at enhancing traffic law enforcement and reducing road violations within the capital city.
The new system, launched by the FCT Minister, is designed to replace the traditional manual ticketing process, ensuring a more transparent, efficient, and corruption-free means of dealing with traffic offenders.
Under this initiative, traffic violators will receive digital tickets, which can be paid online, reducing physical interactions between motorists and enforcement officers.Speaking at the launch, the FCT Minister emphasized the importance of technology in improving road safety and ensuring compliance with traffic regulations.
He noted that the initiative aligns with the government’s broader vision of leveraging digital solutions to enhance public services.
“This electronic ticketing system will not only improve efficiency but also curb extortion and bribery associated with manual ticketing.
It will foster accountability and ensure that road users adhere strictly to traffic laws,” the Minister stated.
The Director of the FCT Directorate of Road Traffic Services (DRTS) also highlighted that offenders will be able to check their violation status and make payments through a designated online portal.
Non-compliance with ticket payments could lead to further penalties, including vehicle impoundment.
Motorists and residents have reacted to the development with mixed feelings. While some welcome the move as a step towards modernization and improved road safety, others have expressed concerns about potential system glitches and accessibility issues for those less familiar with digital platforms.
The FCTA reassured the public that measures have been put in place to ensure a seamless transition and that necessary support will be available for those facing challenges in using the new system.
This development marks a significant milestone in the administration’s efforts to create a safer and more efficient traffic management system in Abuja. As implementation progresses, authorities will monitor the system’s effectiveness and make necessary adjustments to optimize its functionality.
