FCTA Outlaws ‘AMAC Boys’ Warns Against Extorting Motorists
The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has officially banned the activities of the notorious ‘AMAC Boys’ following widespread reports of harassment and extortion of motorists within the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC).
The FCTA reiterated its commitment to ensuring a safe and harassment-free environment for residents and visitors in the nation’s capital. The administration warned that any individual or group caught engaging in unlawful extortion or intimidation of motorists would face strict legal action.
Over the years, several complaints have been lodged against the ‘AMAC Boys’, a group accused of forcefully collecting levies and fees from drivers under the guise of local government revenue collection. Many motorists have reported incidents of intimidation, threats, and, in some cases, physical assault by these individuals.
The FCTA emphasized that revenue collection in the FCT must be carried out in a structured and lawful manner. It assured the public that alternative measures have been put in place to ensure seamless and transparent revenue collection without infringing on the rights of residents.
The administration also urged law enforcement agencies to take decisive action against defaulters and intensify efforts to curb illegal activities on Abuja roads. Furthermore, motorists were advised to report any instances of harassment to the relevant authorities to facilitate prompt intervention.
Residents and stakeholders have widely welcomed the move, expressing hope that the ban will restore order and enhance the safety of road users in the Federal Capital Territory.
