The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has conducted an entrance examinations for 3,336 students, seeking admission into Science and Technical Schools across the Territory.
The Director, FCT Education Resource Centre (FCT-ERC), Dr. Neemat Daud Abdulrahim, who made this disclosure during an exclusive interview with Abuja Digest, emphasized that the entrance examinations for the prospective Science and Technical senior students in the FCT is aimed at sustaining the standard of education, which is in consonance with the vision and mission of the ERC.
The Director said that the Administration is desirous of sustaining the standard of education at all levels in the nation’s capital.
Abdulrahim restated that the FCT Administration will spare no efforts to ensure the provision of effective and quality education in the FCT.
According to her, some of the requirements needed for a students to be admitted into any of the Science and Technical Schools in the FCT is strictly based on merit and not on any sentiment.
The Director disclosed that 3,336 candidates that registered for the entrance examinations, are all competing for the six Science and Technical Schools across the Territory.
She reiterated that the FCT Education sector has strategized a system of ensuring that the successful candidates are randomly posted to any of schools, which is also an effort geared towards ensuring that high level standard of education is well sustained.
Her words: “The examination is well conducted and we are happy that the students, who are sitting for this examinations are also happy. The candidate, who may be successful in this examination would be selected based on merit.”
“Well, for a student to be considered to have passed on merit, they would have to make 5 credits in their Junior Secondary School Examinations; to include Mathematics, English and other Science related subjects. The student would also have to make a passed mark for this entrance examinations.” She added.
Abuja Digest reports that the six existing and operational FCT Science and Technical Schools are: Government Science Technical College (GSTC) Garki, Area 3; GSTC Kwali, GSTC Bwari, Government Science Secondary School (GSSS) Pyakasa, Maitama; GSSS Abaji and Government Girls Science Secondary School (GGSSS), Kuje respectively.
