Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, has assured that his administration would complete reconstruction of the Kwaita-Yebu road in 12 months.

The 12-month completion period was announced by the Minister after extracting a promise from the contractor that he could deliver if funds were made available.

Wike gave the assurance, while performing the ground breaking for the 25 kilometer road, hitherto scheduled for completion within 18 months, in Kwali, Kwali Area Council, Thursday.

The Minister disclosed that he did not initiate procurement processes for award of contract for the project last year because partly ₦100 million was provided for it in the 2023 budgeting.

According to him, 50 percent of the seven billion naira total cost of the road reconstruction has already been provided for in this year’s budget.

He urged Kwali people to have faith in President Bola Tinubu, and not give up hope owing to past experiences of failed promises by past governments; assuring that the President has come to renew hope of all Nigerians.

His words: “Mr. President knows that all of you had lost hope because of the disappointments you had before. It is not if the road will be completed, The road will be completed. We are not in that category of those who award contracts and abandon them.”

Wike stressed that his administration was keeping to promises made and also not concentrating only on roads, saying: “Let me assure you, we’re not only doing roads, by end of August, we will take another round of 18 or 19 schools for rehabilitation.

“If you promise the people and not do it, it makes the people hate government. While we’re doing the city, we are also doing Area Councils”, he said.

Chairman, Kwali Area Council, Abdulrahman Ajiya, in his welcome address, expressed profound gratitude to the Minister for visiting the Council five times in barely ten months, and restoring hope to the people.

“We don’t know what to tell you. You have visited us five times in just about ten months in office and have done what others could not do over decades”.

Abuja Digest reports that the Kwaita-Yebu road connects three Area Councils, farms, and when the whole stretch is fully completed, it would link FCT to Nasarawa State.
