The Federal Capital Territory Administration has commenced the construction of the Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal.
Foundation stone-laying ceremony for the over ₦30 billion complex was performed, Wednesday, in Dakibiyu District of the Federal Capital City, by the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Olukayode Ariwoola,
The CJN stated that the complex would help the judiciary to ensure timely and effective justice dispensation for the good of the people.
Ariwoola assured that the judiciary would make good use of the facility, even as he appealed for adequate official and residential accommodations for improved justice delivery.
He also made case for independence of the judicial arm of government to fucntion “unhindered”; adding that it would work for the peace of the country at all times.
On her part, President, Court of Appeal, Justice Monica Dongban-Mensem in her remarks disclosed that the event was an indication that the present administration has given the judiciary its right place as an arm of government.
She revealed that establishment of the complex would decongest the headquarters and facilitate quick justice dispensation of over 2,000 pending cases; upholding the the rights and liberties of the people.
Dongban-Mensem declared that refusing to attend to files was akin to undermining the rule of law.
Earlier, the FCT Minister stated that President Bola Tinubu attached tremendous importance to issues of the judiciary; adding that the President was determined to ensuring equal treatment for the three arms of government.
According to him, the ₦37 billion already has ₦30 billion provision in the budget, insisting it would be completed by next September; reiterating he won’t be part of projects that would last more than two years
Abuja Digest gathered that the complex has facilities, including 10 court rooms, 10 suits for justices, ample file room, as well as a resting place for justices.
