The protesting workers prevented the newly appointed NIPOST Chief Executive Officer from gaining access to the premises of the agency, saying her appointment was against their wish.
Aggrieved workers of the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) on Monday shut down the headquarters of the service in Abuja while protesting the appointment of Tola Odeyemi as the new Chief Executive Officer/Postmaster-General of the Federation.
The protesting workers prevented the newly appointed NIPOST Chief Executive Officer from gaining access to the premises of the agency, saying her appointment was against their wish.
Some of the staff members displayed placards expressing their displeasure at the appointment of Odeyemi.
The situation grounded activities at the NIPOST headquarters as the protesters locked the main gate and vowed not to allow Odeyemi to have access to the building.
Ajuri Ngelale, a presidential spokesman, announced last week that President Bola Tinubu had changed the leadership of the agencies under the supervision of the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, including NIPOST.
However, moments after the news of Odeyemi’s appointment broke, there were reports that Adeyemi Adepoju, the sacked postmaster general, had been reinstated.
In a viral video, Adepoju is seen addressing some workers who claimed Tinubu had re-appointed him.
A statement on Friday claimed that President Tinubu had re-appointed Adepoju as the Postmaster-General of the Federation and Chief Executive Officer of NIPOST.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has returned Rt. Honourable Adeyemi Sunday Adepoju as the Postmaster-General of the Federation and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST), citing Adepoju’s sterling leadership and excellent performance during his stay in office as the reason for his reinstatement,” the statement said.
