The Directorate Of Road Traffic Services (DRTS) has commenced the profiling of Driving Schools in the Federal Capital Territory to ensure that those learning how to drive in the city are well trained.

The Director of DRTS, Dr. Bello Abdul-Laleef, revealed this to Abuja Digest at the Headquarters in Mabushi District, Abuja.

Dr. Abdul-Laleef, who spoke through a Deputy Director, Head Of Motor Vehicle Administration Division; Mr Oloyede Mudashir, said that the Driving School Administration Unit was recently created out of the Driver Licence Unit, because of the importance attached to having functional Driving Schools in the FCT.

The Director said that about 77 Driving Schools are registered with the Directorate, but efforts are being made to ensure they are operating in line with approved guidelines.

The Director further shed lights on what is required before a Vehicle can pass through the Vehicle Inspection Process.

“The Vehicle must be Road Worthy ; and this includes Tyres, lighting System, Shock absorbers and the Break. All these must be working well before a Vehicle can pass through Inspection tests.”

Dr. Abdul-Laleef said that a private Vehicle Owner is expected to present his Vehicle for Road Worthy Inspection once in a year, while commercial and articulated Vehicles are to present their Vehicles twice a year, because they use the road more often than private Vehicle owners.

Dr. Abdul-Laleef said that Vehicle Inspection is not just a means of generating revenue; but to ensure the Safety of Motorists and other road users.

The Director reiterated the importance of Vehicle Inspection and urged members of The Public to make use of the nearest Vehicle Inspection Centres to them.

He said there are four Centres in Gwagwalada, Katampe, Kugbo and Lugbe, while a 5th one is being constructed in Apo District of Abuja.

Dr. Abdul-Laleef said that “Motorists should possess valid Vehicle documents, drivers licence and obey Traffic Signs at all time”.

The Federal Capital Territory Administration, according to Dr. Abdul-Laleef; is interested in the safety of members of the Public and advised them to ensure that their Vehicles are Road Worthy at all times before embarking on any journey inspite of the distance.
