Tension and grief have gripped the Karsana community in the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) of the Federal Capital Territory following a tragic chain of events that began with a controversial demolition exercise.
Mr. Luka Iliya, a resident whose home was among those destroyed on Sunday, reportedly died just hours after watching his house being brought down by a private developer. His sudden death has left the community in mourning.
The demolition affected numerous homes, including the palace of the village head, who, according to local sources, took ill shortly after the incident.
In a further escalation, two other victims were allegedly shot on Monday as security operatives reportedly blocked residents from re-entering the community. Eyewitnesses claimed the police fired shots when tensions flared over the restricted access.
The incident has sparked anger among natives, who are calling on the FCT Administration and AMAC authorities to intervene, halt further demolition activities, and investigate the circumstances surrounding the resident’s death, the alleged shootings, and the health condition of the village leader.
Many fear that if not addressed urgently, the situation in Karsana could spiral into a full-blown crisis.
