Abuja – June 2025

A Federal High Court in Abuja has awarded ₦200 million to residents of Kpaduma community in Asokoro Extension, ruling that the demolition of their homes by the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) was illegal.

Justice Rosemary Kanyip, who delivered the judgment, held that the FCTA violated a valid court order by proceeding with the demolition while an injunction was still in force. The court described the action as a violation of the residents’ constitutional rights and an abuse of power.

The affected residents, who sued in 2022, argued that the FCTA acted without due process. The court sided with them and ordered the government to pay damages for the losses and hardship they endured.

The judgment has been hailed by community leaders as a victory for justice and a reaffirmation of the rule of law. The FCTA is yet to respond to the ruling.
