Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has disclosed that 85% of the funding for the Greater Abuja Water Project comes from a loan provided by the China Exim Bank, with the Federal Government contributing the remaining 15%.

During a media briefing in Abuja, Wike emphasized that the project is vital for improving access to clean water across more than 30 districts in the capital. He highlighted past delays caused by the government’s failure to promptly provide its share of the funding.

“The Chinese government has demonstrated strong support through its financial and technical contributions. It’s now up to us to meet our obligations and complete this critical project,” Wike stated.

The Greater Abuja Water Project aims to enhance water supply to rapidly expanding areas like Gwarimpa, Lokogoma, Karmo, and various satellite towns. Wike assured that with renewed commitment and funding, the project will be completed on time, improving residents’ quality of life and addressing the water demands of Abuja’s growing population.
