On June 11, 2025, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu commissioned the newly completed Arterial Road N16 (Shehu Shagari Way) in Abuja, connecting the Nnamdi Azikiwe Expressway to Arterial Road N20 (Wole Soyinka Way). The project also includes interchanges and link roads within Katampe District.
President Tinubu emphasized the road’s importance in linking key districts Jahi, Katampe, Maitama, and Mabushi and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to infrastructure and urban renewal under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
He commended FCT Minister Nyesom Wike for the timely delivery and praised local communities and traditional rulers for their cooperation, noting that relocations were peaceful and fairly compensated.
Minister Wike stated that the project, awarded in October 2024, was completed by China Geo-Engineering Construction (CGC) and highlighted that affected communities received 200% compensation.
The road spans 3.7km, has six lanes, and enhances connectivity between Phase I and Phase II of the FCT.
