In a significant show of support for inclusive education, an Abuja based social group, Club Twelve 88, has donated essential learning tools and materials to students with visual and hearing impairments in the Federal Capital Territory.
The beneficiaries, FCT School for the Blind and the School for the Deaf in Kuje Area Council, received items valued in millions of naira, including an Elemax generator, five braille machines, 50 reams of braille paper, 50 hearing aids, 50 sign language books, and six mobility canes.
Speaking during the handover, President of Club Twelve 88, Mr. Olusola Odebode, said the initiative is part of the group’s commitment to uplifting underserved communities and supporting physically challenged individuals through meaningful, targeted interventions.
“This donation reflects our vision to bridge the learning gap for students with disabilities and ensure they have access to the tools needed for academic success,” Odebode stated.
Heads of both schools, Mr. John Onoja Edocha of the School for the Blind and Mr. Abdul Razzaq Suraju of the School for the Deaf, expressed deep appreciation, noting that the items would significantly improve teaching and learning in their institutions.
They assured the club that the donations would be put to effective use, while also calling on other organizations and individuals to emulate the gesture.
The event underscores the growing role of civic groups in promoting educational equity and enhancing the lives of students with special needs.
