Man Arrested in Abuja for Adulterating Cooking Oil

Abuja — A suspected food fraudster, identified as Peter Amos, has been arrested by operatives of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN) for allegedly adulterating cooking oil in the Kabusa district of Abuja.

According to the VGN Commander in the area, John Samuel, the suspect was apprehended on Friday night at the Tipper Garage area, where he both resides and carried out the illicit operation.

In a confessional video obtained by Abuja Metro on Sunday, Amos described his method of adulteration, explaining that he would fill five-litre gallons with water and add a small quantity of genuine cooking oil to the mix before sealing and selling them.

“I sell one gallon at the rate of N10,000 or less than that amount in some instances,” the suspect admitted in the video, which lasts under four minutes. He further revealed that he once trained as a mechanic before abandoning the trade and venturing into the fraudulent business. Amos also promised to help authorities locate an accomplice involved in the scheme.

The VGN commander noted that the arrest followed multiple complaints from residents who accused the suspect of duping them through the sale of adulterated cooking oil.

Following the arrest, Amos was handed over to the police for further investigation. The police confirmed his arrest but declined to provide additional information, citing the ongoing nature of the investigation.
