The House of Representatives has summoned the Administrator of Rivers State, Ibas, to appear before lawmakers in Abuja, following rising concerns over governance and administrative affairs in the state.
The decision was reached earlier this week during a closed-door session at the National Assembly. Lawmakers, citing “urgent matters of state importance,” expressed the need for direct clarifications on a series of developments involving the Rivers State administration.
Administrator Ibas is expected to brief the House on issues ranging from the management of state resources and the execution of federal projects, to security challenges and the welfare of the people of Rivers State.
A senior member of the House, speaking on condition of anonymity, stressed the importance of transparency and oversight.
“The House is committed to ensuring that all parts of the federation are governed responsibly and in the best interest of the citizens. Rivers State has been at the center of some pressing concerns, and we expect Mr. Ibas to assist us in clarifying these matters,” the lawmaker said.
Although the specific date for Ibas’ appearance has yet to be confirmed, sources suggest the meeting will happen in the coming days as the House moves to resolve the issues swiftly.
Political observers see the summons as part of a broader effort by the federal legislature to enforce accountability, especially in states where political tensions and governance questions have surfaced.
The move has sparked mixed reactions across Rivers State. While some residents and advocacy groups welcome the intervention as a step toward transparency, others interpret it as a reflection of deepening political rifts.
All eyes are now on the anticipated appearance of Administrator Ibas, which could offer critical insight into the current state of affairs in Rivers and influence both state and national political conversations in the weeks ahead.
