The Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, has announced the commencement of a strategic road project in Giri District, aimed at opening up the area for accelerated development.

Speaking during an inspection tour on Wednesday, the Minister confirmed that the three-kilometre road, which is currently under construction, is expected to ease movement in and out of Giri — home to the University of Abuja and the Economic and Financial Crimes Academy.

“We believe with what we are doing there, the district will be opened up and development will spring up in no distant time,” Wike said.

The Minister revealed that the contractor handling the project has given assurances that the road will be completed and ready for inauguration by May.

In addition to Giri, Wike also disclosed that the 16-kilometre Idu-Dei Dei Road on the Inner Northern Expressway, the Dakibiyu District road network, and the access road leading to the Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal are all advancing rapidly — with completion also targeted for May.

According to Wike, these infrastructure efforts are part of broader initiatives designed to fulfill President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda by enhancing connectivity, encouraging settlement in suburban areas, and fostering business growth.

“Road network improves connectivity and will encourage people to settle and do business in rural communities instead of migrating into the city,” the Minister said. “That is what we are trying to do — to bridge the urban-rural divide while keeping our promises to the people.”

The road leading to the Court of Appeal is scheduled to be ready by May, while the court facility itself is expected to be completed by September.

The Minister expressed satisfaction with the quality and pace of work across the sites, reaffirming the FCT Administration’s commitment to timely and impactful infrastructure delivery.
