Abuja — In a major political shift ahead of the 2027 elections, the Chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Hon. Christopher Zakka Maikalangu, has officially decamped from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The defection was confirmed on Sunday, April 13, 2025, during a gathering with party supporters and stakeholders in Abuja. Maikalangu stated that his decision to join the ruling party was motivated by a commitment to securing better developmental opportunities and federal appointments for the people of AMAC.
He emphasized that aligning with the APC would enable him to attract more resources and infrastructural projects to the council, as well as create employment opportunities for residents.
The APC leadership in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) welcomed Maikalangu into its fold, describing his defection as a significant boost to the party’s growing strength in the region.
Maikalangu’s switch is expected to reshape the political dynamics in AMAC and possibly influence upcoming elections across the FCT.
