The newly appointed Commissioner of Police for the Federal Capital Territory, Ajao Adewale, has called on residents of Abuja to embrace traffic regulations and support ongoing efforts to restore order on the city’s roads.
Reacting to the worsening gridlock that has crippled key areas of the capital, CP Adewale emphasized that strict adherence to traffic laws is essential for easing congestion and safeguarding lives.
In a statement issued on Monday by the command’s spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, the Commissioner described compliance with traffic rules as both a civic responsibility and a vital step toward national progress.
“Respecting traffic laws reduces congestion in busy areas and prevents needless accidents,” he affirmed.
CP Adewale also condemned illegal parking, street trading, and roadside hawking — activities he said are contributing to the disorder on Abuja’s roads and putting public safety at risk.
“The police are not adversaries; we are partners in progress,” he stated, urging residents to cooperate with law enforcement officers and comply with established regulations to foster a safer and more orderly city.
He further warned that anyone who assaults officers or obstructs their lawful duties would face the full weight of the law.
Concluding his remarks, the police chief appealed for public cooperation, stressing that a collective effort is crucial to achieving smooth traffic flow and preserving public order in the Federal Capital Territory.
