The Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC) of Nigeria is set to host the African Raw Materials Summit in Abuja from May 20 to May 22, 2025. The summit aims to bring together policymakers, investors, industry leaders, and experts from across Africa and beyond to discuss strategies for unlocking Africa’s raw materials potential and promoting industrial growth through sustainable value addition.

Prof. Nnanyelugo Ike-Muonso, Director General/CEO of RMRDC, shared this announcement during the council’s special day at the ongoing 36th Enugu International Trade Fair.

“We invite all stakeholders present here to join the conversation on Africa’s industrialisation through raw materials development,” Prof. Ike-Muonso said.

Representing him at the event, Alhaji Umar Mukthar, Deputy Director of R&D Commercialisation, encouraged stakeholders to interact with RMRDC’s team and explore opportunities for partnership, investment, and innovation.

“We can unlock Nigeria’s raw materials for sustainable development and economic diversification,” Mukthar added.

At the fair, RMRDC’s participation focuses on this year’s theme:
“Developing Nigeria’s Industrial Sector/SMEs for Economic Advancement and Global Recognition.”

The council is showcasing Nigeria’s abundant raw materials, including agricultural, mineral, and industrial resources, with special emphasis on those from Enugu State and the South-East region.

Enugu, known as the Coal City, plays a significant role in Nigeria’s raw materials sector. The state is rich in mineral resources such as coal, kaolin, gypsum, ironstone, and limestone, as well as agricultural commodities like cassava, palm produce, ginger, oil bean, and various tropical fruits and herbs with industrial value.
