Abuja, Nigeria – March 27, 2025 – FCT Minister Nyesom Wike inspected the ongoing renovation at the International Conference Center (ICC) in Abuja on Thursday. The project, handled by Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, is about 70% to 80% complete.

President Bola Tinubu had ordered the renovation after calling the facility an “eyesore” during the ECOWAS Parliament inauguration on April 4, 2024. Minister Wike shut down the ICC on April 8, 2024, to begin repairs.

Wike expressed satisfaction with the progress. He assured that the N39 billion project will be completed by May 2025, during President Tinubu’s second year in office. The goal is to restore the ICC to international standards and attract global events.

“This venue is a national asset. We must make it world-class to host major events,” Wike said during the visit.

The renovation includes upgrading conference halls, installing modern audiovisual equipment, improving security, and enhancing the overall look. The ICC will play a key role in Nigeria’s diplomatic and business events once completed.

Experts and stakeholders support the project, believing it will help Nigeria host major global conferences. The FCTA promises that work will finish on time so the ICC can reopen smoothly.

The ICC is one of Nigeria’s top event venues. This renovation aims to make it one of the best in Africa.
