The Coordinator of the Abuja Metropolitan Management Council (AMMC), Felix Amechi Obuah, has commended Nigerian women journalists for their commitment, courage, and resilience in advocating for societal progress and national development.

Obuah gave this commendation on Tuesday when the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) paid him a courtesy visit at his office. He acknowledged the critical role women journalists play in shaping public discourse, amplifying marginalized voices, and holding leaders accountable.

Encouraging NAWOJ to continue fostering unity and advocating for policies that uplift women, Obuah emphasized that the association holds a strategic position in driving change, particularly in improving the quality of life for women in rural communities. He stressed that empowering women through journalism is key to achieving sustainable development and social equity.

Earlier in the meeting, NAWOJ Secretary, Comrade Nkiru Okeke, outlined the association’s plans for the International Women’s Day (IWD) celebration. She announced that NAWOJ is preparing an outreach program centered on this year’s theme:
“Amplifying the Voices of Rural Women: #AcceleratAction.”

She highlighted that the initiative aims to raise awareness, advocate for gender inclusivity, and promote the welfare of women in underserved communities.

The visit reaffirmed the commitment of both NAWOJ and AMMC to collaborate on initiatives that support gender equality, rural empowerment, and national development.
