Abuja, Nigeria – The Court of Appeal in Abuja has halted the reinstatement of Lamido Sanusi as the Emir of Kano, setting the stage for the Supreme Court to resolve the long-standing dispute.

In a ruling on Friday, a three-member panel of justices suspended the enforcement of its earlier judgment from January 10, which had upheld the Kano State Government’s decision to repeal the 2019 Emirate Council Law. The ruling had technically reinstated Sanusi as the substantive Emir of Kano.

This latest decision extends the legal battle over the Kano Emirate, with the Supreme Court now expected to provide a final resolution. The dispute has drawn national attention, highlighting the political and traditional complexities surrounding the Emirate system in northern Nigeria.

Further developments are expected as legal proceedings continue.
