FCTA Plans to Digitalize Building Contravention Task Force Operations
The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has announced plans to fully digitalize the operations of its newly inaugurated Building Contravention Task Force. This initiative aims to enhance efficiency, curb corruption, and boost revenue generation within the sector.
Felix Amaechi Obuah, the Coordinator of the Abuja Metropolitan Management Council (AMMC), shared these developments while addressing top management staff and members of the Task Force, marking his first year in office. He emphasized that transitioning from the current analogue system to a digital framework within the Department of Development Control will streamline processes, reduce bureaucratic bottlenecks, and maximize results with minimal staffing.
The Task Force will focus on several key areas, including:
- Strengthening building compliance monitoring and enforcement
- Establishing a framework for regularizing unauthorized developments
- Enhancing revenue assurance and financial transparency
- Promoting public engagement and voluntary compliance
Obuah reaffirmed his commitment to innovation and institutional strengthening, urging relevant departments—such as Lands, Urban and Regional Planning, Parks and Recreation, Abuja Geographic Information Systems (AGIS), Facilities Maintenance and Management, and Legal Services—to fully support the Task Force.
He stressed the importance of teamwork, calling on all stakeholders to collaborate effectively to ensure the success of this initiative.
According to Abuja Digest, the Task Force previously operated entirely on an analogue system. With the introduction of digital operations, communication and teamwork are expected to improve significantly, paving the way for a more efficient and transparent process.
