Abuja, Nigeria — A high-speed police chase along the Gwarinpa-Kubwa service lane on Friday evening ended in a dramatic crash after a suspect attempted to flee—with a police officer still inside his vehicle.

Police sources told Zagazola Makama that the incident occurred around 6:00 p.m. when the Crack Squad, led by ASP Segun Ozioma Edene, stopped a Toyota Venza (GWA 151 BM) during a routine patrol.

During a search of the vehicle, officers found suspected Indian hemp and other illicit drugs. The driver, Ahmed Abdul, 25, of Harmony Estate, Dawaki, was ordered to reposition his car. Instead, he accelerated in an attempt to escape, with Inspector Raphael Oghalla still inside.

A high-speed pursuit followed, ending when Abdul lost control and crashed into a gutter. While he sustained minor injuries, Inspector Oghalla suffered serious chest wounds and is currently receiving treatment at the Police Clinic in Area 1, Garki.

Authorities have impounded the damaged vehicle, and Abdul remains in custody as investigations continue.
